MEKOPP Project Advances Sustainable Photonic Chip Production

2024-03-04 Aiming to enhance efficiency and sustainability in photonic integrated circuit (PIC) production, the MEKOPP project is developing cutting-edge technology that utilizes light (photons) instead of, or in addition to, electrical currents (electrons). MEKOPP brings together ten expert partners in the development of two machines.

As part of the initiative, two advanced machines are under development: the Photonics Test Prober (PTP) and the Photonics Visual Inspection Tool (PVIT). These machines are designed to optimize photonics manufacturing while significantly reducing material, energy, and water consumption by 50%.

In this collaboration, Settels is playing a key role by developing the optical systems for alignment and inspection in the PVIT, ensuring precision and quality in the production process.
